Body and Emotion: Schmitz's New Phenomenology and Its Development

This book encompasses both theoretical and practical aspects of phenomenology of the body, divided into two main parts. The first part introduces the core concepts and framework of Schmitz's phenomenology of the body. The second part elucidates the interdisciplinary development of the new phenomenology and its potential applications. Through Schmitz's new phenomenology, we embark on a revision of Husserl's phenomenological theory to further unveil the original chaotic and complex realm of bodily phenomena. This extends the phenomenological analysis to the most familiar yet challenging aspects of everyday experiences, such as emotions, atmospheres, pain, selfhood, and a sense of nothingness. Furthermore, starting from the perspective that meaning arises from concrete bodily operations, the author demonstrates how, by transforming the configurations and topological distributions of bodily clumps, to convert a patient's discomfort into the potential for well-being. This emphasizes the practical contributions that the new phenomenology may offer to the fields of psychology and psychiatric medicine.
