The five-act play depicts a love story unfolding between banished English cavaliers and Spanish aristocratic ladies during the mid-seventeenth century. It centers on a pair of aristocratic sisters: one coerced into marrying a wealthy old man, while the other is destined for life as a nun. Determined to break free from the control of their father and brother, the sisters disguise themselves as gypsies amid the lively and chaotic carnival. Their courageous pursuit of true love exposes them to peril, confronting both male desire and violence along the way..

Aphra Behn
The seventeenth-century restoration writer Aphra Behn (1640-1689) is acknowledged as the first professional female writer in the history of English literature. She sustained herself through her diverse literary output, excelling as a playwright, translator, poet, and novelist. Among her works, Oroonoko is the most renowned in the Sinophone world.
