Selected Articles of Professor Sung Wen-hsun

Professor and Academician Sung Wen-hsun was the first local archaeologist in Taiwan. He inherited the archaeological traditions of both Japan and China but established a local research system and comprehension for Taiwan. He built the foundation for analysis on archaeological material remains, the framework of prehistoric cultures, promoted the application of the carbon 14 dating method, and discovered the first Paleolithic sites and culture. The latest one pushes Taiwan's prehistory back to the Paleolithic Age thousands of years ago. He had also become a famous Paleolithic expert in East Asia. He was also one of the few early scholars to develop concerns and discussions on the development of the archaeological discipline, and the research methods. His insights echo contemporary archaeological trends and demonstrate a far-sightedness higher than the academic thinking of the time. He also advocated for preserving and maintaining archaeological sites, artifacts, and cultural heritages. His academic publications and contributions were developed and presented around these aspects; therefore, this collection selects these representative works to share and read his academic journey and insights with readers.
