Selected Readings of Records of the Grand Historian

This book has been compiled and annotated by a group of senior teachers with the International Chinese Language Program (ICLP) at National Taiwan University. It's intended for foreign students who have studied classical Chinese for a year or more and have attained an advanced level of modern Chinese. Its goal is to create a transitional bridge between introductory classical Chinese textbooks with English explanations and classical Chinese readers used by native students. Through excerpts of biographical stories from "Shiji" (Records of the Grand Historian), students can appreciate the vividness of Sima Qian while learning vocabulary and grammar. In addition, through specially designed units involving pre-class drills, post-class exercises and supplementary reading, students can better understand the different styles of the "Records," consolidate the vocabulary and grammar they have learned, and improve their classical Chinese reading skills.
