Pai Hsien-yung's lifelong dedication to literature spans decades, from founding Modern Literature while studying at NTU in the 1960s to returning after the year 2000 to teach and breathe new life into Kunqu opera and The Dream of the Red Chamber. His works not only express a deep nostalgia for a bygone era but also take on a grander, deeply personal responsibility to reclaim and restore the historical legacy of his father. Beginning with his creative works from the 1960s, this book takes the 1982 stage adaptation of Wandering in the Garden, Waking from a Dream as its core approach, weaving a fresh narrative of how Pai Hsien-yung’s life and art intertwined with Taiwanese literature.
