Selected Articles of Professor Li Chi

Li Ji's influence on Chinese archaeology is multifaceted: he based his arguments on firsthand materials and advocated that the classification of archaeological artifacts should be based on quantifiable tangible objects, establishing a scientific paleomaterialism; he interpreted archaeological data from a cultural anthropological perspective, and did not limit the research questions of Chinese archaeology to the geographical scope of China. Another contribution of Li Ji was the cultivation of countless outstanding anthropologists and archaeologists, the organization of collaboration between the Institute of History and Philology and National Taiwan University, the active training of archaeological research talent in Taiwan, and the naming of the first Paleolithic culture discovered in Taiwan. In Chinese archaeology, he embodied the highest academic standard achievable by historical and archaeological research institutes.
